Little Simz curates the Tate Modern’s next Late
With a lineup of music, creative conversation, workshops and more, the musician is set to give a precious insight into the many places she draws inspiration from.
Ending summer on a high, London’s Tate Modern is launching a new series of August Tate Late events to take place on the last Saturday of the month, curated by none other than the award-winning rapper, singer and actress: Little Simz. A monthly treat at the Tate Modern gallery on London’s southbank, Tate Late events are free and open to the public, extending the galleries open time to provide a whole host of inspiration in the heart of London’s creative scene.
This Late is a little different though. Taking over the gallery for one night only, on 31 August, Little Simz has been working on “a unique programme of art, music (DJ sets programmed by the artist herself) and film workshops and talks” all for the galleries one-off after hours event, a press release details. Visitors to the Tate will also get the chance to hear from the musician directly on the night, as she joins broadcaster and presenter Clara Amfo to share some insights into her inspirations and relationship with visual art and creativity.
Simz’ line-up aims to celebrate London’s array of creative talent as well as “the culture, individuals and collectives who inspire her”, the press release continues. The night will be kicking off with a dance workshop by choreographer and movement director Kloé Dean, followed by DJ sets from Names such as Tash LC, Keyrah, Narx, Donch, Drybabe, Nunguja, ELLADHC and Laolu who will take over the galleries Turbine Hall.
Little Simz has also orchestrated a series of Art Chats with guests such as set designer Es Devlin, painter and designer Slawn and novelist Caleb Azumah Nelson. If you love all things print or illustration, you won’t want to miss artist and illustrator Fiona Quadri’s zine workshop or Jadore Nicholas’ guided cartoon colouring session.
With all of this and more in store, Little Simz shares “I’m incredibly excited to be curating an evening at Tate Modern. It’s going to be really special. Being able to invite people from all different walks of life into the space to connect through art is powerful. I hope people feel inspired, uplifted and moved by the experience.”
Free tickets to the event will be available to book from the Tate website from 14.00 on Friday 30 August, the galleries site also details all the information you’ll need on Simz’ exciting line-up.
