OK Go release latest epic video featuring 567 printers, and a lot of paper

OK Go has released its latest epic video for track Obsession, and compared with the band’s history of epic videos, it does not disappoint. In the video, the band performs against a kaleidoscopic backdrop of of colour and pattern, created by 567 expertly choreographed printers.

Obsession was directed by the band’s lead singer Damian Kulash Jr together with Yusuke Tanaka. Damian has directed or co-directed all of the band’s iconic videos, for example I Won’t Let You Down, The One Moment – where hundreds of items exploded over the course of 4.2 seconds – and Upside Down & Inside Out with Trish Sie – where the band performed in zero gravity.

This latest video begins by describing how it was made, and that all the paper was recycled and the proceeds given to Greenpeace. Then we see Damian singing against a monochromatic wall of black printers and white paper, forming shapes behind him. This quickly zooms out to show the whole band, singing and performing in front of a huge set of printers timed to produce more and more complicated patterns as the video progresses. At one point, the band interacts with printed versions of themselves, and appears to juggle shapes on the paper, and it ends with the band flying through a sky, printed across the wall in gradient.

The technical team included Daito Manabe and Rhizomatiks Research, and choreography was by Mikiko and Elevenplay. The creative agency was Six.
